2 days old… question about formula…..?

I’m havomg to supplement with formula until my milk comes in because my little man is starving if I don’t. I used all the formula samples the hospital sent home. Enfamil Lipil with Iron. I have a can of the powdered New Similac Advance with Early Shield and iron. Will it upset his stomach to just switch his formula? If so how do I transition him??? Thanks!!
I only give it to him after he’s eaten non stop on both sides for 30 minutes. Then he pulls off and cries because he’s still hungry and he’s not getting enough. Then I’ll give him a bottle and down a whole two ouces in 5 minutes, after sucking me dry. Then he’ll finally be satisfied and pass out for a while. Otherwise he ceies non stop until I let him attach again.It’s not that anyone told he would starve, I just know what we’re experiencing.

He’d probably be fine just using the Similac.

But, you do understand what colostrum is and how it works, right? Your breasts produce it so that your baby *doesn’t* starve and *can* eat until your milk comes it. Honestly, it’s all your baby needs until your milk comes in. Giving formula is your choice, but know that you don’t have to, and that you actually *do* produce something for him to eat. It’s pretty untrue that he’ll actually starve.

Edit: If it makes you feel better, what you described is pretty normal. Babies have a need to suck, and newborns often need to nurse several times an hour. Everyone says “feed every 2-3 hours” yadda yadda, but this, at best, applies to the upper limit of making sure babies eat at least that often and no less, and at worst, applies to formula fed babies. It’s perfectly normal and *not* a sign of starvation or hunger if a baby wants to nurse that frequently. It also helps your milk come in better and helps you establish a milk supply.
